Dassa stands for the Brescia-based company of master engraver Alessandro Dassa. The workshop, continued today by his sons, specializes in the finish of high quality hunting weapons. In 1988, a series of finely finished Cosmi shotguns were created, which the master engraver has already executed in collaboration with his sons, who have been involved in the company since 1986.
Cosmi was founded in 1890 by Rodolfo Cosmi. In the small commune of Macerata Feltria (south of San Marino), the innovative craftsman produced his first own shotgun. The special feature: it was to be a semi-automatic hunting shotgun, which could be broken by lever in the style of the usual shotguns. The Cosmi shotgun was born. A technical masterpiece, which is still produced by hand today. The recoil loader is composed of over 100 parts, and in addition to the iconic feature of breaking the barrel from the base, the magazine was also anchored in the stock and not in the forend. This not only had a positive impact on weight distribution, but allowed for a much slimmer forend. In 1936, the sons Americo and Marcello moved the factory to the Adriatic port city of Ancona, where it remains today. In the meantime, the world-famous Cosmi shotgun is offered in five calibers - in addition to the high-quality engravings and finishes, the company has focused in recent years on modern material processing (titanium), lightweight construction and versatility. To this day, Cosmi weapons are handcrafted. The successor generations of Rodolfo Cosmi also participate in the production. Since 2018, the company has been led by Luca Gaeti, who adds creative input and an even more international focus.
