Barrel length 60 cm, stock length 33 cm, year of manufacture around 1968, no proof, condition 3. Curve sight, mounted using the original assembly with ZF 58 from Kahles (special reticle, clear optics), wing safety, plywood half stock with ventilated rubber recoil pad. Federal Army approval on the receiver, barrel renumbered, excellent barrel condition. In the mid-1960s, the question of introducing a sniper rifle arose in the armed forces. The result of this long-term discussion and development was the SSG69 system Steyr-Mannlicher. As a short-term interim solution, 98k carbines were equipped with a half stock and a quadruple scope, designated SSG 98k, and introduced. These weapons were manufactured and fired for the Federal Army in Ferlach at the end of the 1960s. Our example is a dismantled Saltu rifle, which was fitted with a working barrel again but was not reproofed. The SSG 98k were deactivated and given to shooting clubs by the army. Collector's weapon without (valid) proof, provided for storage due to its art or collector's value.
